Canadian Director Honored by the Oldenburg Film Festival and the DGC

On September 14th to 18th the Oldenburg Film Festival in Germany will honor Canadian Director Ted Kotcheff. The tribute to Kotcheff will include a film retrospective of his work followed by a question and answer session.
The festival will present, "Wake in Fright“ and five others. The programming will include the comedy, "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz“ starring Richard Dreyfuss. The film won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival making it the first Canadian film to win an international award.
A 60-minute documentary TED KOTCHEFF’S GOURMET CINEMA: THE MAKING OF WHO IS KILLING THE GREAT CHEFS OF EUROPE will have its world premiere as part of a Kotcheff retrospective at the Oldenburg Film Festival on Sunday, 18th of September, 12 o’clock noon, at the »Cine k« cinema (free entrance). Kotcheff will be in attendance. Fiction Factory produced in association with Bavaria Media (co-producer: Christoph Meiser).
In Toronto, The Directors Guild of Canada congratulates the 2011 nominees announced last month. Selected from close to 175 submissions, the 76 nominees in 19 categories represent a cross section of the industry's outstanding talent in film and television. 
Kotcheff will be receiving THE DGC LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD presented by Silver Sponsor, Shaftesbury Films for his contribution for his work though film including the adaptation of his friend Mordecai Richler's novel The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. He directed many other films throughout the 1970s and 80s, most in the United States, with perhaps the best-known being the Sylvester Stallone feature First Blood in 1982. 
The Guild will also be handing out a number of special awards, with George Mihalka taking home the Don Haldane Distinguished Service Award and Michael Spencer winning the DGC Honourable Life Member Award.
The Awards will be presented at the annual Gala on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the prestigious Royal York Hotel. Hosted by multi-talented radio-host, musician and writer Jian Ghomeshi, the 2011 DGC Awards marks the 10th anniversary of the Awards.
Kotcheff serves as an executive producer of the popular crime series, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and is currently the highest-rated series of the Law & Order franchise, and presently NBC's top rated scripted drama. The series has been nominated for and won numerous awards, including the 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Mariska Hargitay (the first Emmy to be received by a regular on any Law & Order series).
Following the cancellation of Law & Order: LA and series ending of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: SVU is currently the only Law & Order series in production.
